Yes, we're still doing it! @danny_diesel808 #mealprep #sundaynights #healthyfood
I'm glad this woman found the space to advocate for the erasure of trans women at the #WomensMarch. Curious to know who, if anyone, challenged her with a #CisAssist. Another reminder: so-called Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists (TERFs) are neither radical nor feminist.
This has literally been my entire day. #LunaTheHusky #huskiesofinstagram
I didn't want to shit on the empowerment of yesterday's demonstrations, but now for some T: *
The crew I marched with at @womensmarchnyc tried several times to get the people around us to join in the chant "Black Lives Matter!" and we were mostly met with silence and wide-eyed stares. White women (and men) seemed uncomfortable if not threatened by the chant, and looked at us like we were out of place and ruining the party. *
We spotted a few other Black Lives Matter posters and at one point heard the chant start and spread somewhere else, so we knew we weren't the only ones in our section of the feminist wave who had their intersectionality straight. But at one point during our bizarrely intimidating attempt to get the people around us to shout "Black Lives Matter!", one young woman behind me tried repeatedly to change the chant to All Lives Matter. I gave her the mom driving the car with rowdy kids in the back seat look of death and raised my voice over hers. *
This young woman was a person of color, though not African American, and probably of high school or early college age. When the chant died down and the march came to a halt I turned around and said, "Since we're stopped, i'd be happy to explain to you why your chant was inappropriate," and then proceeded to lecture her (loudly) on themes similar to the ones I wrote in this insta comment. She seemed receptive but also caught off guard that a white person (who she likely read as male, but that's for another post) would call her out on racist behavior in the middle of the women's march. *
As a gender non-conforming trans woman at the women's march i was prepared to represent a POV on gendered oppression that i knew wouldn't be the main identifying cause, and as a white ally against racism i was also prepared to be on guard against racist behavior we'd been cautioned about since last years marches. We still have a lot of work to do educating allies from within. Remember: If your feminism isn't intersectional, it isn't feminism. And if you can't chant "Black Lives Matter!" and mean it, your other chants don't really matter at all.
