Hey y'all, remember when the CDC was banned from using the words "vulnerable," "transgender," "diversity," and "evidence-based?" Well the #LITEstudy is saying *F* all that and doing the important evidence-based research the vulnerable and diverse trans-femme community needs! Leading Innovation for Transgender Women's Health and Empowerment (LITE) is the first cohort study of transgender women and transfeminine people in the U.S., collecting data on sexual health, HIV, and other health and social topics. Their study focuses on conducting research that is gender affirming and responsive to transgender women’s experiences and needs. If you live in Boston, New York, Baltimore-Washington DC, Atlanta or Miami -- please consider participating and receive free STD testing and up to $450 over the course of the study!
Please help spread the word and sign up today if you are part of the community! www.litestudy.org
Congrats to @kityanpoet and @melsaboo on opening night of @interstatemusical at @NYMF! So proud @mtfmusicals was able to play a small part!
I can't even handle the emotional labor of describing how much nerve it takes to show up and swim laps in the community pool when you're a nonbinary transwoman. Literally all the action stops. Everyone stares. The pool goes silent, the water calm. Every dance and pilates class, every actor's neutral, every postural technique I've trained in suddenly becomes, in hindsight, a rehearsal for this moment, this walk across the deck in which my body is skewered by the cisnormative gaze. I strut in order to survive. I walk in confidence because there is no alternative. All I want is to get in the water and feel the sun on my body as I pull myself through it, but my mind is already exhausted, my heartbeat already raised. I swim in the center lane as statement. Freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly. I claim space, I occupy with my body the public park that threatens to oppress me, for I am a sanctified transsexual badass and I cannot be stopped.
